Conservatives Hold Blaby and Harborough District Councils
In a difficult national climate with Brexit looming large local Conservatives have managed to retain control of the two local district councils.
With Blaby District Council now having 25 Conservative, 6 LibDem, 6 Labour and one Green Councillor and Harbourough District Council with 22 Conservatives, 11 Lib Dems and 1 Labour Councillor, Conservatives are still firmly in control.
Blaby Council Leader Terry Richardson said
"As leader of the Conservative Group on Blaby District Council I should like to thank all of our candidates for the amount of hard work they put into the elections especially in these challenging times. This hard work in the South Leicestershire Association part of Blaby District meant we only lost one Councillor Marion Broomhead who I believe lost out based solely on National not local issues. Marion has been one the the hardest working and most dedicated ward councillors it has been my privilege to work with and I firmly believe the residents of Blaby South will not see the same level of help and support that they have seen over the past 4 years.
Your elected councillors will continue to support me in ensure that Blaby District Council continues to put the wellbeing of all our residents as their main priority by running the council in the same way as we have over the last four years.
On behalf of your Conservative Councillors I should like to thank all those who voted for us for their support, but assure all residents irrespective of how they voted that we will work for them, and in the best interests of our local communities for the next four years.
Never forget that we too are local residents who have chosen to get involved as we all care passionately about both our local as well as the wider Blaby community."
Harborough Council Leader Neil Bannister said on the day
"I’m certainly feeling relief but also quite pleased about how the day has actually gone.
This morning I did have some trepidation.
But, bearing in mind what’s happening nationally, I can’t help but be quite pleased.
I think the good, positive record that we have to tell our residents did resonate and they have returned that confidence in us. I’m very pleased."
