Statement Regarding Corona Virus (Covid19) From Councillor Terry Richardson Leader of Blaby Distric Council
Our district, along with the rest of the country is facing a National Emergency from the Coronavirus (Covid19) pandemic. We recognise that this is an extremely unsettling and challenging time and people are concerned as the situation is changing rapidly.
The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Resilience Forum of which we are a member, is working on a continuous basis with all of the essential partners, including NHS, police and other councils in response to the pandemic.
I want to re-assure our communities that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that we have people and resources in place to provide essential council services. In addition we are also looking to support the most vulnerable in our district as we believe this is the most critical use of available staff time.
It has therefore been necessary for the council to completely change it’s priorities so that we can implement Central Government policies as directed. This will inevitably mean that some non essential services may suffer during the foreseeable future.
Firstly, I should like to thank all of the Blaby District Council Staff and Elected Members for the way they are rising to this unprecedented challenge. In addition, I would also like to thank our parish and town councils who have also stepped up to the plate.
Secondly, I have been amazed at the incredible community spirit that is being shown and it is heart-warming to hear of the support that people are giving each other.
Last but not least I must thank all of the volunteer groups, both formal and informal that are working tirelessly in our local communities making a real difference on the ground.
We recognise that this is an incredibly difficult time for all businesses, employees and the self-employed within the district. Our commitment to you as your Council is that we will deliver on our element of Central Government’s financial package once full details are available.
In terms of protecting our own staff and Councillors, the Council is following national guidance and has been reviewing how it operates, and we would urge all employers to do the same.
In light of the above, the Council has regrettably taken the decision that the offices will be open for appointments only. Customers are asked to use this website to request services or call 0116 275 0555.
