Thorpe Astley Action Day
On Saturday 18th September 2021, our South Leicestershire team went out to support Cllr Ben Taylor & Cllr Louise Richardson. They are proposing a new local parish council for Thorpe Astley.
Since the estate was built, it has been bolted onto Braunstone Town Council. Thorpe Astley has always been separated geographically from the rest of Braunstone, so it’s felt that a change in direction is wanted.
Thorpe Astley has an opportunity to decide its own destiny, our core message on the day was the below four points.
We would like local residents:
- To have a local voice
- To develop an active community
- To shape the future of Thorpe Astley
- Get involved
Our next step is to hear the feedback from residents, then if we feel the support is there, we can initiate a governance review at Blaby District Council.
This process formally starts a review into the make up of Thorpe Astley within Braunstone Town Council, a public consultation will take place and new boundaries potentially are formed.
On the action day itself, we delivered around 1200 leaflets, with the rest completed over the following week.
This was also an opportunity to speak to people while out and about in Thorpe Astley. Overall, the response was very positive to our proposals.
Finally, our thanks go out to all those who attended the action day. South Leicestershire Conservatives will continue to support local communities and campaigns, ensuring everyone has their voice heard.
