Cllr Marian G. Broomhead

Blaby District Council : Blaby South Ward

I have lived in Blaby for over 40 years, along with my husband Peter who grew up in Glen Parva.  We have two sons and two grandchildren who also live in the area, as we all see Blaby as our home.  Over the last five years I have had the privilege of serving the people of Blaby on the District Council. During that time I had the honour of serving as Chairman of Blaby District Council.

I have had the opportunity to become a member of the patient participation group for Northfield Medical Centre.  I have been a Parish Councillor for over 10 years.  In my spare time I enjoy looking after our grandchildren, walking in Bouskell Park and fundraising for various charities.  One such event was the challenge of abseiling down the tower of Southern Fire Station for Rainbows.

Over my years as a Councillor, I have been an active member of the Staying Healthy Forum.  I have helped young people and young families access the support they needed through the Communities and Partners working group. I have chaired the Over 50’s Forum.  I worked successfully to get play equipment moved so that it benefited all residents living next to it in Blaby South and I have helped a resident in Glen Parva move to a new home.

As a member of the Parish Council I have also been involved with the development of the Neighbourhood plan which allows residents to have their say on the provision of facilities and amenities for Blaby and the wider community in which we all live.  It has been a privilege and honour to represent the local community in which I live.
