A STATEMENT BY ALBERTO COSTA MP ON THE EUROPEAN REFERENDUM

This is my last Christmas as an MP – as your MP in South Leicestershire.  Needless to say, this brings mixed emotions and I am very sad to be quitting the field, but it is the right decision.  I welcome Alberto Costa as the new, younger candidate and shall of course be supporting him in any way I can.

After a very heated campaign, most of us will be thrilled that the Scots showed their innate common sense and voted by a significant margin to remain in the UK. The harm to Scotland – and also to the rest of the United Kingdom – of a vote for separation would have been immense. Two issues remain in my opinion, as an English/Welsh Unionist.
